Mauer, Not Willingham Or Span, Going To All-Star Game

It’s almost official! With the exception of one player in both the American and National Leagues, the AL and NL rosters have been announced for the All-Star Game at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri on July 10. Most people shouldn’t be surprised that Joe Mauer was selected to represent the Twins, since he is 4th in the AL with a batting average of .324. This will be Mauer’s fifth All-Star Game.

What may surprise people is that neither Josh Willingham nor Denard Span were selected to go. Willingham, who was probably the most likely Twins candidate besides Mauer to be selected, has a .268 batting average with 17 home runs and 55 RBI. Span, who Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said he thought should go to the All-Star Game, is hitting .275 with 3 home runs and 21 RBI.

I think that at least Willingham should have been selected along with Mauer to represent the Twins at the All-Star Game. Willingham has been one of the AL’s top run-producers. Which of the Twins do you think should have been selected?? Should Mauer have?
