This post will be about the main highlights of this year’s Twins season, but I promise it will be short. There aren’t many of them!!
First, there was Francisco Liriano’s no-hitter on May 4 against the Chicago White Sox. I think this was the most surprising highlight of the season because Liriano was really struggling coming into the game. This game showed how good Liriano can be when he’s not freaking out!
On August 10, Twins closer Joe Nathan became the franchise’s all-time saves leader. I am really proud of Nathan accomplishing this milestone because he worked really hard to recover from Tommy John elbow surgery.
5 days later, slugger Jim “Hercules” Thome became only the eighth player in MLB history to hit 600 career home runs. This was probably my favorite part of the 2011 Twins season because he is a great man and he truly deserved the honor. After that home run in Detroit, his family congratulated him at home plate. I was so shocked because he hit #600 the at-bat after hitting #599! I thought it would take him much longer!
Finally, a “Two Men On” highlight was the interview with Mike Vedder, the “Target Field Hot Dog Man” (see August 24 post). Vedder is extremely nice and has a legendary voice. Click here to read and watch WCCO’s story on him.
Hopefully, the 2012 season will go a lot better than 2011 for the Twins!! For more reasons to feel upbeat about the upcoming season, click here! It’s got to be a whole lot better than this season!! Look on the bright side, the Lynx are in the WNBA finals!!! What was your favorite part of the Twins’ 2011 season??
