Well Twins fans, the wait is over. First baseman Justin Morneau is finally playing in games again.
This past Tuesday (March 8), Morneau returned to the Twins lineup, for the first time since suffering a concussion July 7, 2010, in a “B” game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. He went 1-for-2 with a three-run double. Then, on March 11, Morneau played against the Boston Red Sox and went 0-for-2. He played 4 innings in each game. After both games, Morneau said he felt good. He is expected to play today (March 13) against the Philadelphia Phillies.
I wasn’t entirely sure that Morneau would come back this season, but this week has been very encouraging. Though he admitted his timing at the plate is off, the most important thing is that he appears to be healthy. Having him healthy for the entire season is one of the keys to the Twins’ success in 2011. It will definitely make the lineup stronger. Good luck Justin!
