The New Guys (Part 2)

Since I have written “The New Guys”, there have been a couple transactions the Twins have made that I think will interest you.

  • First, on Thursday, February 4, the Twins signed veteran Orlando Hudson to a 1 year, $5 million contract. Hudson, 32, is a second basemen and a four-time Gold Glove award winner (awarded to the best fielder at each position in both the American and National League). He also has good speed and is a good hitter. He should be very valuable for the Twins in 2010.
  • On Tuesday, February 9, the Twins lost outfielder Jason Pridie when the New York Mets claimed him off waivers, but they signed outfielder Jacque Jones to a minor league contract. Jones played with the Twins from 1999-2005 and was very good, hitting .279. He has played 10 seasons in the major leagues with the Twins, Cubs, Tigers and Marlins. Jones, who turns 35 in April, has never been as good as he was from 1999-2005. He will likely play in Triple-A Rochester.

  1. OK, well I could beat Jones in a foot race and the dude has never seen a pitch that he didn’t think he should swing at, so let’s not get to giddy about that one. I think it was a courtesy thing that will, hopefully, lead to a coaching position somewhere. I think he is a good ” baseball guy.” I do like the depth at most positions. Less than 200 hours until pitchers and catcher report!!!!!
